Two people. One relationship. Two very different ways of remembering it.

Jamie is a young writer on the rise. Cathy is an actress still waiting for her big break. Over five years they fall in love, get married, and slowly drift apart. But this story isn’t told in the usual order. Jamie’s side begins on the day they first meet and moves forward. Cathy’s begins at the end of their marriage and moves backward. Their paths cross only once, at the center of the show, on the day they say “I do.”

Written entirely by Jason Robert Brown, The Last Five Years is an intimate two-person musical with a sweeping, heart-on-its-sleeve score that blends pop, jazz, folk, and classical styles. It won Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Music and Outstanding Lyrics, was adapted into a 2014 film starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan, and made its Broadway debut in 2025. More than two decades after its premiere, it remains one of the most beloved musicals of its generation.
