About This Show

Iowa, 1965. Francesca Johnson has spent eighteen quiet years on a farm far from her home in Naples, Italy. When her husband and children leave for the state fair, she expects a peaceful few days alone. Then a stranger pulls into her driveway.

Robert Kincaid is a National Geographic photographer searching for one of Madison County’s famous covered bridges. Francesca offers to show him the way, and what begins as a simple favor becomes four days that will change both of their lives forever. Torn between a love she never expected and the family she has built, Francesca faces a choice that will stay with her for the rest of her life.

Based on Robert James Waller’s best-selling novel, The Bridges of Madison County features a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman and a sweeping, folk-inspired score by Jason Robert Brown. The music won the 2014 Tony Awards for Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations, and it remains one of the most gorgeous scores in modern musical theatre.

Romantic, aching, and beautifully sung, this is a story about the roads we take, the ones we don’t, and the moments that stay with us forever.
